About the Playwright: Vanda's one acts have been produced in New York City and Boston. Her first full-length play, An Appearance of Desire, was a finalist in The Eugene O'Neill National Playwriting Conference, as well as a finalist for a Jerome Foundation Grant. You Can't Get Uptown on the Downtown Train won Honorable Mention in The Attic Theatre of Los Angeles' Festival of One Act Plays and was also a finalist in The Perishable Theatre Women's Contest. Our Lady of Stone, premiered by Developmental Stages in New York City, was a first place winner in The Out on the Edge Festival, and Kvetching with the Virgin Mary was selected to be performed at the Samuel French Festival of One Act Plays.

You Can't Get Uptown on the Downtown Train was first produced by Developmental Stages, NYC in 1998, and was staged as part of the Lower Eastside Festival at Theatre for the New City in 1999.
